According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, as of August 31, 2024, the country's national debt stood at AMD 4.8303 trillion, equivalent to approximately $12.48 billion.
Since December 31, 2023, the national debt increased by AMD 39.5451 billion (around $102.2 million). By the end of 2023, the debt was AMD 4.7949 trillion ($12.39 billion).
The growth in national debt is primarily due to an increase in domestic debt. As of December 31, 2023, domestic debt amounted to AMD 2.1631 trillion ($5.59 billion), but by August 31, 2024, it had risen by AMD 30.191 billion ($78 million) to reach AMD 2.3891 trillion ($6.17 billion).
As for external debt, it showed a downward trend. On December 31, 2023, external debt was AMD 2.6317 trillion ($6.8 billion), but by August 31, 2024, it had decreased to AMD 2.4412 trillion ($6.31 billion).
