About 9 million tons of various goods were transported in Armenia in the first six months of 2023, 7.3% rise compared to the same period of time in 2022, while the number of transported passenger surged by 23.4% to about 87.7 million, according to the National Statistics Committee.
During the period under review, about 6.5 million tons of cargo were transported by trucks, by 14.2% more than in January-June 2022. About 1.4 million tons of cargo were transported by rail transport (8.2% rise), more than one million tons were transported by trunk pipeline transport (67.4% drop) and the cargo transported by air almost doubled to 15, 2000 tons.
In the first 6 months of the year, more than 70 million people were transported by road transport (25% growth), about 14 million by electric transport (12% growth), about 2.4 million by air (77% growth) and 237,500 by rail (7.5% growth).
Also, 2,098 road accidents were reported in the first six months of the year, up 11% from the same period of time in 2022. Some 145 people were killed in these accidents, up 5.1% from the first 6 months of 2022 and another 2,910 were injured (up 8.5%)
In the reporting period of 2023, revenues from postal and courier activities amounted to over 10.2 billion drams, up 27.7% compared to the same period of 2022, ARKA reports.
