Over 238,000 tonnes of grapes have been processed across Georgia, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
As of October 8, around 600 tonnes of grapes have been processed in the Ambrolauri municipality of Racha, with approximately 570 tonnes comprising Alexandroupoli and Mujuretuli varieties. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the remaining grapes are of various other types. Some 40 wine companies have already been involved in the harvest storage process.
The agency reports that about 400 winegrowers have supplied grapes to wine producers, generating an income of approximately GEL 4.7 million.
To encourage private sector involvement in the vintage and facilitate its organisation, a subsidy scheme has been implemented in the Racha region by government decision. All companies purchasing and processing at least 3 tonnes of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone, and paying the winegrowers at least GEL 8 per kilogram, will be eligible for a subsidy. The government subsidy amounts to GEL 4 per kilogram for both Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes.
