As of 9M 2020, auto imports are 31% down in Georgia, while exports – by 37%.

The main export markets for Georgia were neighboring and regional countries until this year. In 2020, Armenia has left the list due to the high tariffs imposed by the Eurasian Economic Union on the neighboring country.

However, Caucasus Autoimport says that it has not been a surprise for their business. According to the company, despite the pandemic, demand on used cars is not decreased, but supply is reduced, which resulted price growth on cars at the auctions.

“Demand is slightly decreased in Georgia, but it really does not amount to 30%”, - Davit Gulashvili, executive director of Caucasus Autoimport declared.

According to Gulashvili, new export markets have appeared, including Moldova, Iraq, which have not been on the list earlier and now, cars are actively exported to these countries.

“If growth on these markets continues, we should assume that the sector will return to pre-pandemic level soon”, Gulashvili declares.
