Belarus has responded calmly to the "impulsive remarks" made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding Minsk. This was reported by Alexander Shpakovsky, Counselor-Envoy at the Embassy of Belarus in Russia, as per TASS.
"We assess Nikol Pashinyan's impulsive statements calmly. We continue to respect the fraternal Armenian people with whom Belarus shares centuries-old historical ties," he noted.
Shpakovsky emphasized that Belarus "does not interfere in the internal political processes in Armenia, nor in the sphere of Yerevan's foreign policy."
"Based on the principle of reciprocity, we expect similar approaches from our partners and allies. Therefore, we were somewhat puzzled by the contacts between representatives of the Armenian leadership and the leaders of Belarusian political extremists," the diplomat remarked.
Shpakovsky stressed that the choice of partners and allies remains a sovereign matter for official Minsk and that the "either-or" approach is unacceptable in this case. "We have cooperated and will continue to cooperate with fraternal Azerbaijan in all areas, including military-technical," Shpakovsky underscored.
During a parliamentary session on June 13, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced his decision to no longer visit Belarus. He noted that from this point forward, no official representative of Armenia would travel to Belarus.
"One of the leaders of the CSTO declares that he participated in the preparation of the 44-day war, encouraged, believed in, and wished for Azerbaijan's victory. After this, should I go and discuss the CSTO with the President of Belarus within the CSTO framework? Although I will be forced to do so within the EAEU and EEC frameworks. Aren't you the ones talking about dignity and principles?" Pashinyan addressed the opposition.
