The number of beneficiaries of subsistence allowance is 100,000 up in 2020 reaching 532,000 in January 2021.
According to the statistics of the Social Service Agency, today 14.3% of the total population receives subsistence allowance in the amount of 60 GEL per month.
As of today, 148,653 families are registered in the database of subsistence allowance, which is 13.9% of the families’ total number.
Due to the increased demand for subsistence allowances, the monthly budget of the Social Service Agency is grown from 6 million GEL to 29.8 million GEL.
The rise of extreme poverty is linked to the economic crisis in the country. According to a forecast made by the World Bank in October last year, 160,000 citizens of Georgia may find themselves in poverty amid pandemic and the income of 400,000 people may be reduced.
