Zviad Gachechiladze, member of the Board of Directors of the State Electrosystem, stated that the Black Sea Submarine Transmission Line Project is expected to be fully completed by 2032. Speaking at the Silk Road Forum, Gachechiladze highlighted the strategic importance of the project for Georgia’s energy infrastructure and regional connectivity.
“It is very important that this project is successfully completed,” Gachechiladze said. “Completion is expected in 2032, following the finalization of the preliminary study and the start of implementation. The project enjoys strong political support both in the Black Sea region and from the European Union. Economic backing is also crucial to ensure that it delivers socio-economic benefits.”
He emphasized that the initiative is aligned with sustainable development goals, contributing not only to the development of the electricity market but also to broader economic and social benefits. Gachechiladze noted that the project has already been included in the European Union’s 2026 Development Plan, reflecting its significance at a regional and international level.
The project is expected to see an investment of EUR 25 million in 2026 to advance planning and implementation stages. Once completed, the submarine transmission line will enhance Georgia’s energy connectivity with Europe and support the development of renewable energy resources in the region.
