Bread price did not increase in the recent period, unlike other products, - Chairman of the Malkhaz Dolidze, the Head of the Georgian Bread Manufacturers Union said. According to him, the price of bakery products in Georgia is the lowest compared to neighboring countries.
"I want to tell you that the price is maintained, unlike other products, it has not changed recently, it is generally around GEL 1.5, which is much lower than our neighboring countries.
Currently, the price of a 50-kilogram flour in Georgia, both locally produced or imported, amounts to GEL 70, which gives producers the opportunity to maintain the price," said Malkhaz Dolidze.
Dolidze notes that Georgia currently has a 3-month supply of wheat and flour, the main part of which is imported from Russia.
"Food security means creating supplies in the country. I want to tell you that at this stage we have a 3-month supply of wheat and flour in the country, and even today, ships are arriving in Batumi and Poti offering wheat to the country, its average price is USD 350, which is much more affordable than last year, when the price was USD 550.
The main supplier is Russia. Many countries export wheat from Russia, because this year they harvested 150 million tons, which, of course, must be sold, because Russia itself needs a maximum of 40 million tons of wheat," explains Malkhaz Dolidze, the Head of the Georgian Bread Manufacturers Union.
