Businesses in Georgia are expected to receive GEL 2.9 billion in VAT overpayment refunds in 2026, First Deputy Finance Minister Giorgi Kakauridze said at a parliamentary Agriculture Committee meeting.
According to Kakauridze, GEL 1.378 billion has already been refunded this year. He said the total amount is expected to exceed GEL 2.9 billion by the end of 2026.
If the forecast is met, businesses will receive around GEL 200 million more in VAT refunds than in 2025. According to the Finance Ministry, VAT taxpayers received GEL 2.7 billion in automatic VAT overpayment refunds last year, compared with GEL 2.5 billion in 2024.
Georgia has operated a fully automated VAT overpayment refund system since 2020. Under the mechanism, VAT overpayments are automatically transferred to taxpayers’ bank accounts based on declarations submitted for the relevant month.
