The Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, together with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, inaugurated the newly rehabilitated cable car that connects Rustaveli Avenue and Mtatsminda Park.

"Congratulations! The historic project has been completed. Our beautiful capital has restored its charm with the reopening of the cable car connecting Rustaveli Avenue to Mtatsminda Park," said Kaladze. He emphasized that the project, which began 66 years ago, has now been given new life.

Kaladze highlighted the technical details of the newly rehabilitated cableway, which was initiated in 2021. The cableway is a circular, single-rope, gondola system consisting of a lower station at Rustaveli Avenue, an upper station at Mtatsminda Park, and five support towers in between. Notably, the lower station, housed in a historic building, was preserved and renovated as part of the project.

The cableway features 21 eight-seater gondolas that will cover the distance between Rustaveli and Mtatsminda Park in four minutes. The system has the capacity to transport 1,200 passengers per hour in one direction.

Kaladze underscored the project's significance in enhancing Tbilisi's tourist appeal. The total cost of the project was 50 million GEL.

In addition to the cableway, Tbilisi City Hall's environmental protection service undertook the construction of a new square near the lower station of the cable car. The 1,300-square-meter area now features authentic lighting poles, paved footpaths, restored fountains, new seating, and an improved drainage and sewage system. Landscaping efforts included planting various saplings and installing an irrigation system. The cost of these additional works was 700,000 GEL.

The inauguration was attended by members of the Georgian Parliament, Tbilisi City Council, representatives of Tbilisi City Hall, Mtatsminda Park administration, and officials from the companies involved in the project.
