Some representatives of Georgia’s vehicle market say that the US tariffs on car imports earlier this year are affecting prices locally.
The tariffs, which took effect in May 2025, impose a 25% duty on cars and basic car parts imported to the US. According to Alexander Vekua, head of the sales department at Caucasus Auto Import, the impact has been most visible on budget vehicles and their parts.
“Prices for high-demand used cars have increased noticeably, by about 10-15%. For budget models, the price went up around 15%,” Vekua told BMGTV. He added that while the US trade policy had a limited effect on other segments, the sudden tariff changes led to a rapid price increase for liquid cars.
Despite the price hikes, sales have grown this year. Caucasus Auto Import reports a 20% increase in car imports and a 10% increase in re-exports over the first 11 months of 2025.
