Georgia has built a strong automotive service and spare parts ecosystem over the past several decades, and preserving this advantage is essential to maintaining the country's position as a regional auto hub, according to Tato Norakidze, Business Development Director at Caucasus Auto Import.
Speaking to BMGTV, Norakidze said Georgia's extensive experience in the automotive sector has created a competitive edge that neighboring countries struggle to match. He noted that, for example, sourcing vehicle parts is significantly more difficult in Azerbaijan, making Georgia a preferred destination for car imports, servicing, and re-exports.
Norakidze emphasized that predictable regulations and close cooperation between the government and the private sector are crucial for the industry's continued growth. He said businesses need advance notice of regulatory changes so policies can be discussed with the sector and implemented without undermining the auto hub that has been developed over many years.
He also stressed the importance of diversifying export markets but warned that expansion brings external risks, as regulatory changes in foreign markets can directly affect Georgia's automotive trade. According to Norakidze, maintaining the country's competitive advantages while adapting to changing market conditions will be key to the sector's long-term success.
