Cargo processing in Georgian ports and terminals decreased in Q3, 2023 - Geostat

In the third quarter of 2023, 4191 ships entered the ports and terminals of Georgia, of which 32.9 percent are general cargo carriers, 28.9 percent are container ships 28.4 percent are liquid bulk, 9.8 percent distributed among dry bulk carriers, tugs, passenger and specialized ships, the National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported.

According to Geostat, in the third quarter of 2023, the ports and terminals of Georgia received 70.4 percent more container ships compared to the corresponding period previous year, 1.7 percent less – liquid bulk, 23.8 percent less – general cargo carriers, 15.4 percent less – dry bulk.

In the third quarter of 2023, 16.5 percent of the ships arriving at the ports and terminals of Georgia sail under the flag of Turkey, 16.0 percent – under the flag of Liberia, 15.0 percent – under the flag of Panama, 7.6 percent sail under the flag of Malta, 6.0 percent – under the flag of Vanuatu, 4.3 – under the flag of Barbados, 4.1 percent – under the flag of Bulgaria, the rest 30.5 the interest is distributed to other countries.

In the third quarter of 2023, ports and terminals of Georgia processed 3548.2 thousand tons cargo, which is 0.5 percent less than the indicator of the same period previous year. 43.6 percent of freight carried is general cargo, 29.5 percent – liquid bulk, 26.9 percent – dry bulk.

In the third quarter of 2023, the ports of Georgia served 5.9 thousand passengers, which is 3.1 times more than the indicator of the same period previous year. In addition, the share of outgoing passengers in the passenger carried slightly higher the share of entered passengers and is 50.8 percent.
