The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) hosted a group of experts from the Central Bank of Korea and Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute (KFTC). The visit aimed to develop a cashless payment system in Georgia.
A cooperation agreement was signed between the National Bank of Georgia and the Bank of Korea on this project in 2025. Within the framework of the project, practical recommendations for a regulatory framework were elaborated, aimed to develop a modern payment infrastructure and popularize cashless payments.
“Both Georgia and the entire region need this cooperation. Together, we can strengthen financial infrastructure, which is a cornerstone of sustainable economic development,” said Natia Turnava, NBG President.
According to a representative of the Central Bank of Korea, Georgia and Korea share many things in common and the exchange of experience is beneficial for both sides.
“Georgia is the first country outside European and Asian regions with which we cooperate in the Middle Corridor context, enabling us to further expand this partnership in the future,” the bank representative said.
NBG Vice President Ekaterine Galdava and heads of the bank’s different departments attended the meeting.
