Kakauridze: National Bank Is Successfully Managing Inflation

კაკაურიძე

Deputy Finance Minister Giorgi Kakauridze says he does not understand why there were public expectations that food prices would decline in the short term, noting that measures being developed by a government commission could not produce results within a month.

Speaking to TV Pirveli, Kakauridze said price increases for certain products are partly driven by higher transportation costs. He added that both a government working group and parliamentary recommendations are addressing the issue.

“I don’t know why we expected prices to fall. A commission has been working on this issue and certain steps will be taken, but this could not happen within a month. As for price increases in some products, transportation costs are among the contributing factors,” Kakauridze said.

He also argued that inflation is being effectively managed by the National Bank of Georgia. “The issue of prices is controlled by the National Bank, and I think it is doing so very successfully,” he stated.

Georgia’s inflation target is 3%, while annual inflation stood at 5.7% in May 2026.
