Certification Of All Types Of Alcohol Beverages Becomes Obligatory
The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee discussed in the first reading amendments, which should be made to the draft law “on Vine and Wine”, which provides to add new category of "dealcoholized wine" and other alcoholic beverages.
The amendments are made in accordance with the requirements of the EU regulations, which are aimed to ensure the quality of Georgian wine.
Until now, the certification process merely applied to the exports. However, it becomes mandatory for all types of alcoholic beverages.
The speaker, Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency, explained that the private sector is given a reasonable deadline for this article and, consequently, it will come into force on January 1, 2023.
The project also entitles the National Wine Agency to participate in the testing of wine and alcohol beverages.
The committee approved the bill in the first reading.
