Beginning November 1, the Georgian National Competition Agency will accept consumer complaints about infringement of their rights, protection of their interests, and consistent action.

According to the new rule, a customer has the right to return faulty goods within 14 days after purchase. The retailer will be required to fix the issue or pay a fine. The merchant must also disclose complete information about a product’s quality, features, and validity.

According to the agency’s chair, Irakli Lekvinadze, the consumer rights law is part of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. Enforcing European norms for consumer rights protection is fundamental to Georgia’s EU integration.

On November 16-17, Georgia will host the first international conference on competition and consumer rights.

To work on the law, the National Competition Agency launched the Twinning project, a European Union mechanism for institutional collaboration between public administrations in EU Member States and beneficiary or partner nations. Twinning intends to help with the formulation, implementation, and enforcement of EU legislation.
