The Roads Department has released an update on construction of the remaining 3-kilometer section of the Grigoleti-Kobuleti highway. According to the agency, engineering works are actively underway, although no specific date has been given for when the section will open.
Notably, in October 2025, Minister Revaz Sokhadze gave the contractor a one-month deadline to complete the road. However, one year later, the section remains unfinished. The contractor is Turkish company Polat Yol, which signed a GEL 228 million construction contract on December 3, 2018. Under the contract, the works were supposed to be completed within 24 months, by December 2020.
Polat Yol was contracted to build the 14-kilometer highway section. Five kilometers were opened in 2022 and another six kilometers in 2023, but the most difficult section remains incomplete. It includes construction of a bridge over the Supsa River. At the beginning of 2025, it was also reported that the company had outstanding salary payments to employees, while construction progress was significantly behind schedule.
Polat Yol also built another Georgian highway project - the Batumi Bypass - with a significant delay. The contract for the 13-kilometer, GEL 330 million section was signed in August 2017. The road was originally expected to be completed earlier but eventually opened in October 2024, four years behind schedule.
