Consumers saved 2.2 million GEL on electricity purchases in 2025, according to the annual report of the Georgian Energy Exchange. Over the year, 129,753.8 MWh of electricity was traded on the exchange - a volume nearly 7.5 times higher than in 2024.

The average weighted price of traded electricity stood at 131.4 GEL/MWh (13.14 tetri/kWh). The report notes that in every month of 2025, the price of balancing electricity exceeded the exchange’s average price, enabling buyers to save a total of 2.265 million GEL, compared to just 400,000 GEL in 2024 - a 5.5-fold increase.

Despite the significant annual growth, trading was completely absent in the fourth quarter of 2025. By year-end, the exchange had 25 registered participants.

The report also highlights another delay in the full liberalization of the electricity market. Under the latest decision, the transitional model - originally set to end in 2025 - will now remain in place until 2027. Under this model, trading occurs with hourly products, while balancing energy is settled monthly. Once fully launched, the market will include day-ahead and intraday hourly trading, as well as balancing and ancillary services markets.
