Customs officers stationed at the Kazbegi checkpoint foiled three attempts to smuggle significant sums of undeclared money into Georgia. Acting on suspicion, officers conducted thorough inspections of personal belongings and vehicles, uncovering large sums totaling 464,595.2 GEL, as reported by the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance.
In a proactive effort to combat illicit financial activities, customs officers at the Kazbegi checkpoint intercepted multiple instances of attempted smuggling of undeclared currency. The successful prevention underscores the vigilant enforcement efforts undertaken by Georgian authorities to uphold customs regulations and preserve financial integrity.
According to the Revenue Service, the intercepted sums amounted to 80,000 US dollars and 8,672,000 Russian rubles. "Through meticulous inspections, customs officers identified the undisclosed funds concealed within personal belongings and vehicles," the agency stated.
"In accordance with the Customs Code of Georgia, the individuals responsible for the smuggling attempts were fined 46,518 GEL, equivalent to 10% of the total amount," the agency further elaborated.
