The number of daily flights to Georgia is 76% up since the start of the Russia-Ukraine War, - according to the statistics published by Eurocontrol. The organization examined the impact of the war on air traffic in the European region.

According to Eurocontrol, Lithuania lost almost 200 flights a day due to the conflict, which was a decrease of 46%. More than half of the suspended flights were connected to the termination of flights from Russia, Germany, France and the UK. Shortly after the start of the war, the EU countries and Russia closed their airspace to each other. Due to the closure of the airspace, flights were reduced in the airspace of Latvia and Poland as well. The same statistics show that after Russia closes its airspace to EU countries, European airlines operate flights from the South to Asia. As a result, the average daily transit rate in Georgia has increased by 76%.

Sakaeronavigatsia explains that the flight number increase is also related to the easing of Covid-19 regulation in addition to the Russia-Ukraine war.

"The report published by Eurocontrol compares the number of flights fulfilled in February 7-14, 2022 and March 7-14, 2022. Sakaeronavigatsia Ltd. served 924 flights in the airspace of Georgia in February, while 1639 flights – in March. The difference is 715 flights and we have a 77.4% increase.

Several reasons can be the result of flight increase: the start of the spring season, easing of COVID-related regulations in a number of countries, and the regrouping of air flows due to the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the closure of part of Russian airspace," the state-owned company said.
