Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili says that supporting the growth of potato production and the development of the sector is a key priority. He made the statement after meeting with potato producers and exporters.
According to the ministry, farmers discussed current challenges and future development prospects during the meeting. Songulashvili also introduced an initiative to establish a sectoral council aimed at improving coordination and support for the industry.
The minister noted that potatoes remain a high-demand product in both local and international markets, making production growth strategically important. He emphasized that the new council will ensure closer communication with farmers and help design policies tailored to sector needs.
The discussion also covered irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation, access to agricultural machinery, and improving support programs. The ministry added that council meetings will be held monthly, with the minister attending quarterly to ensure direct engagement with the sector.
