Georgia’s State Military Scientific-Technical Center “Delta” plans to purchase 2,500 anti-hail rockets through a simplified procurement procedure, with the total value of the purchase estimated at €1.02 million. The request for simplified procurement has already been submitted to the State Procurement Agency.
The planned purchase includes 2,000 small anti-hail rockets and 500 large rockets. According to Delta, existing reserves have nearly been depleted due to unusually unstable weather conditions in 2026, with anti-hail rocket consumption significantly exceeding initial forecasts. The agency said the active hail season continues until November, increasing risks to agricultural crops, infrastructure, and private property.
Delta noted that the current season has been marked by more frequent and intensive hailstorms compared with previous years. The number of hail-risk events has nearly doubled, requiring more frequent cloud-seeding operations and leading to higher consumption of anti-hail equipment than originally planned.
The agency has managed Georgia’s anti-hail protection system since 2015. Currently, 92 anti-hail installations operate in the Kakheti region. Delta said a standard electronic tender would take too long given the urgency, as the remaining stock could run out before a procurement process is completed and the new equipment delivered.
