In Armenia, special attention is being given to the implementation of effective research and development mechanisms within the economy, said Deputy Minister of Economy Sevak Mikaelyan during a roundtable on technology transfer in the country.
The event, held on September 17, was organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, in coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan.
In his opening remarks, Mikaelyan emphasized that the primary goal of the Ministry of Economy is to foster the development of a knowledge-based economy in Armenia that ensures high productivity. To achieve this, the ministry is working on creating a favorable environment for innovative and competitive entrepreneurship, the development of small and medium-sized businesses, as well as the creative economy.
Special attention is being paid to the implementation of effective research and development mechanisms, commercialization of scientific results, and technology transfer. However, according to Mikaelyan, infrastructural reforms are currently on the agenda, necessary for the realization of the policies developed by the ministry.
The deputy minister noted that innovation-driven growth can help Armenia diversify its economy, reduce its dependence on traditional sectors, and create new opportunities for growth and development. By investing in research and development, Armenia can also promote the development of human capital and knowledge transfer.
"This could lead to the creation of high-quality jobs, attract foreign investment, and foster economic prosperity," emphasized Sevak Mikaelyan.
