Air traffic between the capital of Armenia and the southern city of Kapan is becoming more frequent. This was announced by the governor of Armenia's Syunik Province, Robert Ghukasyan, on his Facebook page.
According to the governor, an additional flight has been added on Wednesdays to the existing flights on Mondays and Fridays. This expansion provides residents and visitors of the region with more opportunities for quick and convenient travel between Yerevan and Kapan.
This development was made possible by the revival of "Syunik" Airport in Kapan, which had not been operational for nearly 30 years. Following extensive renovations conducted in accordance with international standards, the airport received certification from the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia in 2020. In September 2023, "Syunik" achieved a new level of recognition by receiving a three-letter identification code, YUK, from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Regular flights between Yerevan and Kapan were launched on August 21, 2023, operated by the Armenian airline NorAir. The cost of a one-way ticket is 20,000 drams, approximately equivalent to 50 US dollars.
