Domestic tourism in Georgia has doubled, - show the preliminary data from Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
According to the report, monthly average number of Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years or more made 1,415,000 visits on the territory of Georgia, which is 109% growth compared to the previous year.
In 2Q2021, the monthly average number of tourist visits of Georgian residents amounted to 654,500, which is 112.3% higher than the indicator of relevant period of the previous year.
According to the survey results, 44.1 percent of visitors are the residents of Tbilisi, 11.6 percent - Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, 11.2 percent - Kvemo Kartli region, while the rest of the regions are represented by the lower share in the structure.
Distribution of monthly average number of visits made by Georgian resident visitors by the type of visit:
Visiting friends/relatives – 47%
Visiting other house (cottage, etc.) – 17.5%
Shopping – 14.1%
Health and Medical Care – 7.8%
Holiday, Leisure, Recreation – 7%
Business or Professional – 3.1%
Religion/Pilgrimage – 1.6%
Education or trainings – 1.6%
Other – 1.8%.
The majority of the visits comes on Tbilisi (average 316.2 thousand visits per month) and Imereti region (253.9 thousand visits per month).
In 2Q2021, the monthly average expenditure during the visits equaled to 203.4 million GEL. This indicator is 128.1 percent higher than the indicator of the relevant period of the previous year. As for the average expenditure per visit it has been increased by 8.9 percent and equaled to 143.7 GEL.
