“I appeal to the donors of non-governmental organizations: their responsibility does not end with the mere transfer of funds; it encompasses a duty to uphold the integrity of these organizations,” stated Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to Papuashvili, the actions of the opposition, along with their affiliated media and non-governmental organizations, suggest that preparations are underway for a repeat of the 2020 scenario, creating a false pretext for the potential non-recognition of election results.
“Therefore, I emphasize to the donors of non-governmental organizations that their responsibilities extend beyond financial transactions; they must also ensure the integrity of these organizations. The experience of 2020 was particularly revealing. Initially, there was the spread of faulty results from parallel counting, followed by a joint statement from non-governmental organizations based on misleading claims, such as the alleged delay in results announcement by the Central Election Commission (CEC) and supposed imbalances in eight per cent of polling stations. This demonstrated how dangerous it is to irresponsibly tamper with democratic processes,” Papuashvili concluded.
