Economic Council Meeting Chaired By PM Was Held

The Economic Council meeting chaired by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was held at the Government Administration.

The members of the council were briefed by Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Amilakhvari on the vision of the development of professional education, which is actively elaborated by the ministry. The importance of developing mechanisms necessary for actively engaging the private sector in professional education was emphasized.

The meeting’s participants discussed the intercity passenger transportation reform, within the scope of which bus stations and passenger transport operators will be certified. As a result of the reform, service quality will be improved and security will be upgraded.

The conversation also touched on the 2022-2028 forecast published by the International Monetary Fund. It was noted that, among the countries of the wider region and Europe, Georgia will have the highest economic growth rate in the medium-term period to make up 5% on average in 2023-2028. Georgia exhibits significant progress in considerably improving income per capita, being one of the leaders among the countries of the wider region and Europe in terms of per-capita income growth. According to the IMF projection, as a result of high economic growth rates, poverty will be reduced and employment and the revenues of citizens will increase in the country.

At the meeting, energy projects and new initiatives were also discussed which will be prepared and referred for approval to the Government meeting shortly.
