Economy Minister presents head of Economic Development Corporation

ქვრივიშვილი გაბრიაძე

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, introduced Irakli Gabriadze as the Director General of the Georgia Economic Development Corporation.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the corporation was established on the basis of the Enterprise Georgia agency and aims to increase access to finance for the private sector.

Kvrivishvili said expectations for the organization are particularly high, as the new structure expands both the institution’s scope and its responsibility in the country’s economic development process.

“As tangible as the results and benefits that Enterprise Georgia has brought to our country, entrepreneurs and specific sectors of small and medium-sized businesses have been, we have worked intensively over the past months to properly identify opportunities for further expansion and scaling. All of this has been done so that we have more tools at our disposal to implement even greater positive changes in the country,” Kvrivishvili said.

According to the minister, the reform separates two major areas of activity. The corporation will focus entirely on developing financial instruments, programs – including syndicated loans and capital market instruments – as well as strengthening analytical capabilities. At the same time, the Investment Agency has been established as an independent body tasked with attracting investments and promoting Georgia’s investment potential internationally.

Kvrivishvili stressed that the Economic Development Corporation will not be focused solely on small and medium-sized enterprises.

“Our ambition is to increase the scale of operations and expand the service component so that your positive impact can spread more rapidly to large sectors of the economy. This will help us see results across numerous industries in a shorter period of time. The energy sector is a good example – it is a pilot and highly important area where, with the corporation’s involvement, we objectively expect tangible results and significantly greater activity,” she said while presenting the corporation’s new head.

The minister wished Gabriadze success in his new role and expressed hope that under his leadership the organization would become one of the country’s most effective institutions in responding to economic challenges in the coming years.

Irakli Gabriadze has extensive managerial experience in both the public and private sectors. Since 2020, he has served as Deputy Director General of the Enterprise Georgia agency. He received his education in Georgia and Germany and holds a doctorate in economics from Tbilisi State University. He is also a graduate of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. In addition to his professional career, Gabriadze has taught at several universities over the years and is the author of numerous academic publications.
