Georgia’s Ministry of Education will publish the finalized quotas for university programs today as part of the ongoing higher education reform, Deputy Education Minister Zviad Gabisonia announced. The quotas, which apply to both bachelor’s and master’s programs, are based on the government’s “One City – One Faculty” principle.
Gabisonia said the quota distribution has largely been finalized and that no major changes are expected going forward. The ministry is also actively preparing for the upcoming university entrance exams, ensuring that all deadlines and procedures established by law are met.
Some minor adjustments have been made to quotas at Ilia State University, including the addition of several unique programs requested by the institution. However, the deputy minister emphasized that no radical changes are planned for any university within the quota system.
Gabisonia also noted that Sokhumi State University is expected to gain a stronger focus on agricultural studies, with several agricultural and agricultural engineering programs set to be transferred from the Georgian Technical University. At the same time, Zugdidi State University will maintain its existing programs and continue to play an important role in educating students from Abkhazia, while the government aims to strengthen regional universities through specialized academic fields.
