Egg Prices Unchanged for Now, Outlook Remains Uncertain – Poultry Association Head

კვერცხი

Georgia’s egg producers have not raised prices in recent months, despite official data showing a slight increase, according to Zurab Uchumbegashvili, chairman of the Poultry Development Association and co-founder of Kumisi.

Speaking to BM.GE, Uchumbegashvili said egg prices were increased in January due to market conditions but were later reduced by producers amid expectations of government measures to support the sector. He noted that while some retailers may have adjusted prices differently, producers have not introduced new price hikes.

Commenting on the work of the parliamentary food price commission, he said the sector has not seen any tangible changes so far, apart from eggs being included in the consumer basket under review.

Looking ahead, Uchumbegashvili said the outlook is challenging due to rising feed costs. He pointed to a sharp increase in corn prices, a key component of poultry feed, after restrictions on imports reduced supply. According to him, the price of feed corn has risen from GEL 0.70 to GEL 1 per kilogram, creating pressure on producers and making it difficult to predict whether current egg prices can be maintained.
