In 2M2024, electricity transit from Georgia decreased.

According to the Georgian State Electrosystem, a total of 177 million kWh of electricity was supplied to Turkey from Azerbaijan via Georgia in two months this year.

Last year, in January-February, the total transit of electricity from Georgia amounted to 890 million kWh. Accordingly, an 80% decrease was recorded y-o-y.

According to the representatives of the energy sector, the electricity price decrease in Turkey is the main reason for the transit reduction.

Merab Lominadze, the managing partner of "Trading Solution" told BM.GE that the price per kWh in the neighboring country has been reduced to 6.5 cents. According to him, it is expected that the current situation in Turkey will reduce the export of electricity from Georgia this year.

In 2023, electricity transit through Georgia totaled 3.5 billion kWh.

As for exports, 1.47 billion kWh of electricity was exported last year, which was 51% higher than the figure of 2022. The total income from exports amounted to USD 103 million. The main exporting market was Turkey.
