The Georgian government plans to introduce amendments to the Law on Notaries during Parliament’s 2026 autumn session. The bill, prepared by the Ministry of Justice, is included in the government’s legislative agenda.
One of the key changes will be the introduction of an electronic notary system. The bill will also define public and private notarial acts and clarify procedures related to postponing notarial actions.
The amendments aim to improve requirements for entering the profession, extend the period for replacing a notary, and revise internship rules at the Georgian Notaries Chamber. The government says the changes will help retain qualified professionals and encourage notaries to work in mountainous regions.
Under the bill, the theoretical part of the internship will be provided by the Justice Training Center, while internship fees will be adjusted to current conditions. The legislation will also clarify requirements for notary appointments and several aspects of notarial procedures.
