Enguri-Vardnili hydropower generation fell by 26.7% year-on-year due to technical constraints at Enguri HPP following the power system outages in July and August, according to an electricity market review by investment bank Galt & Taggart.

The decline was offset by a 36.5% annual increase in generation from other hydropower plants, supported by significantly improved hydrological conditions. In September, wind and solar power generation rose by 51% year-on-year, accounting for 1% of total electricity supply. The increase was driven by new capacity additions, including 10.75 MW of solar and 18.8 MW of wind power. The 206 MW Ruisi Wind Farm began trial operations on September 28.

Thermal power generation declined 15.4% year-on-year in September, accounting for 22% of total electricity supply. All thermal power plants were operational during the month, with Gardabani Thermal Power Plant 1 recording the largest share of thermal generation at a tariff of 11.7 tetri per kWh (4.5 US cents).

Georgia recorded no commercial electricity imports or exports in September 2026. Although equal import and export volumes with Azerbaijan appeared in the electricity balance, these flows were technical in nature and intended to support the operation of the two power systems.
