Georgia's epidemiological situation, measures taken in the healthcare sector, and steps toward prevention were discussed at yesterday's Interagency Coordination Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili at the Government Administration.

The meeting pointed out that the hospital sector's workload is not growing significantly, with over 2,000 of the 8,000 mobilized beds remaining available, most patients being treated at home, and their health conditions monitored by family physicians.

The situation is under control, and Government has the process well in hand, the Interagency council's meeting emphasized.

Compared to last week's data, specialists report a decrease, albeit small, in new infection statistics and other parameters, meaning that the curve is dropping. However, only after monitoring this week's epidemiological situation will it be possible to assert whether or not the country has left the Omicron variant's peak behind.

The meeting reiterated the importance of vaccination and booster doses in reducing the severity of infection and avoiding possible complications.

The Interagency Coordination Council once again urges citizens to wear facemasks, observe applicable regulations, and avoid crowded gatherings, also to stay at home if symptoms develop.

The Health Ministry also briefed the Head of Government in detail on expected dates for importing additional doses of new Pfizer vaccines and antiviral pills. Active negotiations with Pfizer are underway.

Since the first confirmed coronavirus case in Georgia, the country has seen 1,480,841 confirmed cases, with 1,289,168 recoveries and 15,628 deaths.
