Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has reaffirmed Estonia's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity on the 18th anniversary of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, condemning Russia's continued occupation of Georgian territories.
In a post on X, Tsahkna said that Russia's invasion of Georgia in 2008 demonstrated the Kremlin's "contempt for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbours." He stressed that Estonia stands with the people of Georgia and remains committed to supporting the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
The Estonian foreign minister said that Russia's continued occupation of parts of Georgia, together with its full-scale war against Ukraine, shows that the Kremlin continues to rely on military force to pursue its geopolitical ambitions.
"We reject any attempt to alter internationally recognised borders by force," Tsahkna wrote, reiterating Estonia's position in support of the rules-based international order and respect for the sovereignty of states.
