The United Arab Emirates' national carrier, Etihad Airways, is set to enter the Georgian aviation market with plans to launch regular flights between Tbilisi and Abu Dhabi beginning in March 2026, according to an initial application submitted to Georgia’s Civil Aviation Agency.

The airline intends to operate 14 flights per week, significantly expanding air connectivity between the two capitals. The regulatory process for granting a flight permit is expected to begin ahead of the 2025–2026 winter navigation season.

At present, the Tbilisi–Abu Dhabi route is serviced by Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, which operates seven flights per week. Etihad’s entry would effectively double the number of weekly flights on the route.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Economy, the United Arab Emirates remains the most active Gulf nation in terms of air traffic with Georgia. In 2023, 647,710 passengers traveled between the two countries, accounting for 59% of total air passenger traffic between Georgia and the Gulf region.

The ministry emphasized the broader economic benefits of Etihad’s expansion into Georgia:

“Etihad Airways' entry into the Georgian aviation market will contribute to the deepening of trade and economic relations between the two countries, further increase in passenger traffic, and strengthening of the civil aviation and tourism sectors in Georgia.”

Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, is one of the region’s largest and most prestigious carriers, known for its global route network and premium services. Its arrival is expected to enhance Georgia’s position as a growing aviation and tourism hub in the Caucasus.
