Russian airline Red Wings has applied to Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) to operate additional flights to Georgia. According to information published on the agency’s website, the airline is seeking permission to serve six more Russian cities from Tbilisi.
The proposed destinations are Omsk, Volgograd, Izhevsk, Krasnoyarsk, Saratov and Surgut.
Red Wings has also submitted an application covering 17 Russian cities for flights to Batumi. The list includes Astrakhan, Cherepovets, Cheboksary, Ulyanovsk, Syktyvkar, Surgut, Stavropol, Orenburg, Omsk, Nizhnekamsk, Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, Izhevsk, Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk, Volgograd and Saratov.
The application does not mean that Red Wings will necessarily launch flights from these cities. It represents an initial expression of interest and part of the Russian approval process. The airline would subsequently need to apply to Georgia’s Civil Aviation Agency for permission to operate the proposed routes.
