“Let me also be very clear and repeat. As the European Union, we condemn violence by anyone, in any form, in any shape,” EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński told Georgian journalists at a press conference in Tbilisi.
“As the EU Ambassador in Georgia, I try to have contacts with everyone. This includes the ruling party. This includes the opposition. This includes civil society, academia, and so on. Let me be very clear, as the European Union, we are not supporting any political party in Georgia or anywhere else. It’s for Georgian people to decide who should govern the country.
At the same time, let me also be very clear and repeat. As the European Union, we condemn violence by anyone, in any form, in any shape. I have already referred to the statement issued the day after local elections, on October 5, by High Representative / Vice President Kaja Kallas and Commissioner Kos, in which they called on everyone to refrain from violence. What I want to add is that, as the EU Embassy, together with 27 European embassies in Georgia, 25 EU member states, and two non-EU member states’ embassies, we issued an unprecedented local statement ten days before elections, urging everyone to keep calm and not resort to violence,” Paweł Herczyński concluded.
