Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has accused Paweł Herczyński, European Union Ambassador to Georgia of using his diplomatic status to interfere in the country’s internal politics, claiming the envoy is “causing harm” and acting under external direction.
In response to questions about the possible suspension of visa-free travel to the EU, Kaladze said such discussions amount to “blackmail” and are based on “lies and slander.” He argued that visa liberalization has no link to recent legislation, and that the EU is using Georgia for broader geopolitical purposes.
Referring directly to the EU Ambassador, Kaladze stated, “If it were up to me, I would expel him,” while acknowledging that no formal discussion is underway regarding the ambassador's recall.
He emphasized that changes in government must occur through elections, not external pressure or unrest. “Whatever misfortunes are happening in Georgia, they come from Western bureaucracy, their funding, and their political agendas,” Kaladze concluded.
