Today, on January 29, EU ambassadors in Brussels will consider the extension of the EU monitoring mission’s mandate in Armenia.

According to Radio Free Europe's journalist Rikard Jozwiak, if no unexpected obstacles arise, the decision on the extension will be approved, allowing the mission to continue its work until February 19, 2027.

The composition of the mission will remain unchanged: 165 international and 44 Armenian personnel. According to official documents, the observers' area of responsibility covers the entire length of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, including the section bordering Nakhchivan.

Meanwhile, the mission itself acknowledges that its available resources are insufficient for real-time monitoring of all border incidents. Instead, observers visit specific incident sites, and their reports are compiled based on open-source information and testimonies from reliable witnesses.

Although the mission is unarmed, official Baku has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with its presence in Armenia.
