The Council of the European Union has decided to extend the mandate of the EU Civilian Mission in Armenia (EUMA) for two more years, until February 19, 2027. This was announced by the press service of the European Council.
According to the decision, the mission’s budget for the period from February 20, 2025, to February 19, 2027, will exceed €44 million. Launched on February 20, 2023, EUMA will continue to operate as an unarmed civilian mission under the leadership of Dr. Markus Ritter.
EUMA consists of more than 200 personnel, including international and local experts from 25 EU member states, as well as Canada. The mission's observers and civilian specialists monitor the situation on the ground, contribute to security in conflict-affected areas, and support confidence-building measures between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the statement, EUMA remains a key element of the EU’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region. The mission’s mandate and objectives remain unchanged.
