On September 9, European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas will arrive in Yerevan for an official visit. The main purpose of his visit is to initiate a dialogue on visa liberalization between the EU and Armenia.
Schinas’s visit includes a packed agenda with meetings scheduled with the country’s top leadership. The European official is expected to hold talks with the President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of Armenia.
These meetings highlight the high level and significance of the dialogue that is about to begin.
The decision to start negotiations with Armenia on visa liberalization was approved by the ambassadors of all EU member states on July 17. This followed a period of intensive talks between Yerevan and Brussels, demonstrating the growing mutual interest in strengthening relations.
It is also worth noting that alongside the decision to initiate the visa dialogue, the EU’s Peace Facility approved the provision of defense assistance to Armenia.
