Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze responded to the recent arrest of Dr. Giorgi Chakhunashvili, noting that when a person commits a crime, there will be an appropriate response. Kaladze made the remarks in the context of the October 4 protest and the subsequent detentions of several participants.
“A few dozen people are committing violence against the majority of Georgia’s population, which is very serious. On October 4, there was a concrete attempt to overthrow the announced government, supported by external actors. The Georgian government prevented this crime. All perpetrators will face an appropriate response,” Kaladze said.
Regarding Chakhunashvili’s arrest, the mayor stressed that profession does not exempt anyone from accountability. “We warned everyone not to take illegal steps. Every person is free to make their own decisions, but when they commit a crime, the state will respond appropriately,” Kaladze added.
For context, 71-year-old Dr. Chakhunashvili was detained yesterday in connection with the events of October 4. A protest rally of doctors in support of Chakhunashvili is scheduled for this evening at 8:00 PM on Rustaveli Avenue.
