Everything must be done to bring unemployment below 5% – Kobakhidze

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says that everything should be done to reduce unemployment in Georgia to below 5%.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, unemployment fell to 13.3%, although the labor force also declined.

“Generally, the optimal unemployment rate is between 3% and 5%, and we believe that reaching this level is possible within a few years. Achieving this requires economic growth, which is precisely what our specific economic initiatives and investment projects are aimed at. Everything must be done to bring unemployment in our country below the 5% threshold, and this is absolutely realistic. Such a result may even be achievable within three years. Increasing exports is also important. Encouraging local production, promoting its presence abroad, and improving the import–export balance will all remain major areas of work in the future,” Kobakhidze said.

It is noteworthy that in the last quarter of 2025, the labor force in the country decreased to about 1.6 million. Of these, almost 1.4 million were employed: 970,000 were hired employees, and around 430,000 were self-employed. The number of unemployed people in Georgia stands at 215,000.
