“Fundamental progress has been made by the Economy Ministry regarding large hydropower plants,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in response to a question from BMG.
According to Kobakhidze, the process will move forward rapidly under Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili. He said the government is taking the necessary steps to secure investment and launch construction of large HPPs.
“Everything is being prepared in advance to ultimately secure investments and begin construction of large hydropower plants. Of course, this is a long-term process overall, but the relevant processes are moving forward at a very rapid pace within the ministry - much faster than, for example, two years ago,” Kobakhidze said.
He added that the new team at the Economy Ministry is accelerating work on energy development, including large HPP projects. “Everything will move forward as rapidly as possible, and accordingly, construction of large HPPs will begin. We will periodically share detailed information with the public,” the Prime Minister said.
