The Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, has uncovered a case involving the illegal transportation of a substantial quantity of goods across Georgia’s customs border. Criminal charges have been filed against two individuals involved in this operation.

According to the investigative service, it was determined that the defendants smuggled approximately 4,447 grams of gold jewellery—valued at GEL 577,497—through the Sarpi customs checkpoint. They concealed the items among various household goods to evade customs control.

The investigation is proceeding under Article 214, Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulates a prison sentence of 8 to 11 years for such offences, the announcement from the Ministry of Finance’s investigative service reads.
