Financier Giga Bedineishvili says the Labor Inspectorate will have to use "draconian methods" to fulfill the goals related to the payment of the minimum wage to doctors.
Accoridng to him, entering the clinics and investigating these issues by the Labor Inspectorate could increase corruption. In addition, the financier considers the establishment of minimum wages for doctors and nurses as a Soviet practice.
The financier says that proper remuneration in any profession, including medical staff responsible for human life, is determined by a free market and a competitive environment, not punitive mechanisms.
"Free Market is the best determinant of appropriate remuneration. Some bureaucrats cannot determine this. This has been tried so many times and failed. As for the quality of service, it improves when there is free competition. The best ratio of quality and price is achieved when we will allow the business, including healthcare sector, to develop," he said.
From January 1, 2023, according to the government's decree, the minimum salary of doctors was set at GEL 1,260, while the nurses - at GEL 792.
