Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili charged the Competition Agency to submit the Expertise Opinion by May 15 and the Government of Georgia would be able to act accordingly with its response measure.
Zaal Iakobidze, the founder of Senta Petroleum, one of the representatives of the wholesale fuel market declares that the fuel price is down in the wholesale market.
A representative of the industry noted that today the product is cheaper by about 40 tetri in the wholesale market and the average price of fuel at the non-branded service stations is 3.20-3.25 tetri.
"We announced that it was possible to import the fuel at the same price as in the international market. This has already been reflected in the Georgian wholesale market in relation to gasoline. Today, the price of gasoline in the wholesale market of Georgia is about GEL 3 instead of the existing GEL 3.40-3.50, therefore, according to my information, the retail price of gasoline at a number of non-branded stations is GEL 3.20-3.25, "- said Zaal Iakobidze.
Director of Senta Petroleum declares that the Prime Minister had instructed the Competition Agency to study the market for branded gas stations, adding that he could not specify what measures would be taken.
"The Competition Agency will study the fuel prices on the retail market and whether there is any kind of agreement, because many gas stations have quite high prices. It is easy to study, however if any company has a high margin, it is directly difficult to ask for a margin reduction. This is generally regulated by competition in the market," Iakobidze said.
