Public Broadcaster's funding will increase by GEL 18.9 million in 2023 and hit a record high GEL 101 million, - according to the draft budget submitted by the government to the Parliament.
The figure is significantly high compared to any private broadcaster's income from advertising, correspondingly Public Broadcaster will retain the rank of the richest TV channel in the next year as well.
According to the Law on Broadcasting, the budget funding for the Public Broadcasting Company is tied to the size of the GDP of Georgia, therefore its increase is conditioned by the growth of the nominal gross domestic product.
"The main source of funding for public broadcasting is the state budget of Georgia. The amount of funding for public broadcasting is not less than 0.14% of the gross domestic product determined for the previous year, taking into account the existing macro-parameters during the development of the draft law on the state budget of Georgia," the code reads.
On September 30, the old building of the first channel was purchased by Wissol Group for GEL 77 million, where the investor plans to develop a multi-purpose center.
At the same time, the Public Broadcaster announced a 41-million tender for the renovation of the building under construction on Politkovskaya Street.
